It always seems impossible until it’s done

As I am writing this, I am lost in words because I felt like I got lost in touch with the time that I didn’t even notice that it’s already the end of the first semester and I somehow managed to survive it. 

Looking back to the state of myself when I entered this course, I am a lost duck, with no friends, and no confidence in myself. I had this negative voice in my head that keeps talking about how I will not be able to finish my first semester. I am not ready and I am not fit for the standards of UP.

In the Eyes of an Alumnus

Meet Mr. Dwight Jason Ronan, an alumnus of BS Development Communication class 2009 of University of the Philippines Los Baños. He graduated as Cum laude and Major in Community Broadcasting, Minor in Environmental Science and Ecology. He finished his master’s degree at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand, with a Master of Science in Regional and Rural Development Planning last 2016. 

Now, he is based in Jakarta, Indonesia working as a Senior Officer for the ASEAN Secretariat, handling nature conservation and biodiversity, urban resilience, and water resources management.

Reach

“To reach any significant goal, you must leave your comfort zone”

DevCom activities and exercises are no easy tasks. It made me feel a lot of emotions, three of those are fear, confusion, and agitation. I knew the reason why most of my emotions toward the activity are negative and it’s because those exercises are beyond my comfort zone.

However, a rush of adrenaline and the reality that I have to accomplish the activity made me act upon myself which allows me to experience and reach a certain level of growth within me.

Capital Jewelry of the Philippines

Our first assignment in our laboratory class was to think of three development-oriented topics that are existing in our local community. I struggled a lot during this time because I don’t know which concerns should be my topic. 

I remember the first three topics that I presented were all rejected because all of them are not relevant or appealing. Also, the time frame of the issue was already outdated. Thus, I tried to think again wherein I recalibrated my topic and pursued the jewel industry.
