About ‘Sir Ed’

Prof. Edmund G. Centeno, PhD, graduated from BS Development Communication as cum laude in the year 1999. He is currently an Associate Professor 4 at the Department of Educational Communication at the University of Los Baños and has been an instructor at the College for 20 years. He is also an Affiliate Professor at UP Diliman’s College of Education, and UP Open University’s Faculty of Information and Communication Studies, and Director of Interactive Learning Center

Last October 8, 2021, he was awarded as one of the 2021 College of Development Communication Alumni Association (CDCAA) Distinguished Alumnus in Development Communication Education, and he shared his experiences as a student of Devcom that helped him in his current field.

Ever ready because of Devcom

With Devcom’s endless goal of using communication to serve the people, Prof. Centeno is involved with research in the university and college. He contributed to the study and practice of Educational Development Communication and Educational communication media and technology, and he also mentored students and faculty. He is also involved in research communication in DRM where they empower risk communities with risk communication. A consultant in the development of PCAARD LMS and in the DOST NRCP’s Back to Basic initiative. 

According to him, after graduating from his undergraduate he applied to PCAARD wherein the learned skills from Devcom were visible to his work. He coordinated with the promotion of technologies, with the conduct of seminar workshops, he also produce materials in print, broadcast, visual, audiovisual format, and production of communication materials.

Devcom definitely prepared him as an educator wherein he has already and currently teaching in Development and Educational communication, Communication research, interpersonal communication, visual design, and a lot more. 

He mentioned that as a Devcom student all activities done with the Devcom courses will be used to the future works you’ll be at. Devcom practitioners are all rounded people and jack of all trades. And lastly, it is more than just sharing awareness, informing, and educating people but capacitating local communities.
